(110) JAKU (Repose, Tranquility)

Eigen Yuho

The character jaku is also used to represent nirvana. Although it represents stillness and peace, the brushstrokes of this piece seem to be dancing. An added charm is the little painting of crimson maple leaves giving the brushstroke character a three dimensional quality. Autumn is a season for quiet reflection. This is a creative and inspiring Zen scroll by Seki Yuho (1900-1982) long-time abbot of the Rinzai head temple Eigen-ji.
