Nakamura Tempu (dated November Showa 26 (1951) on the back)
Tempu (1876-1968), was the father of the power of positive thinking movement and Yoga in Japan. Tohei Koichi Sensei, founder of a modern sect of Aikido called Ki Society, says he was influenced equally by Tempu and Aikido’s Founder Morihei so Tempu’s philosophy is present in much of modern Aikido. There is a book based on Tempu’s teachings in English called Japanese Yoga by Hugh Davey. Tempu was an excellent self-taught painter and calligrapher, and his brushwork is still very popular and widely collected in Japan.
